In this tutorial, we would be learning how to manipulate a basic image into a grunge composition using various textures, fonts and basic shapes.

Step 1: Basic Image

First of all, you would need a photograph of the beach.

Once downloaded, bring the image on the canvas. Go to Image, Adjustments and choose the photo filter option. Use the following details.

Step 2: Text Tool

Pick up the text tool and go crazy. Run your ideas on the canvas and play around with the fonts. Use different fonts for your wordings and add a little funk to your image.

Step 3: Shape Layer

Use the Rectangle Tool and make two shape layers around your text like shown below.

Step 4: Newspaper Layer

Again pick up your text tool and start using different fonts for your text. Keep your text within the shape created in the previous step. You can even use different font sizes to highlight the main points in your text.

Step 5: Wrinkled Paper Texture

Now you would need a wrinkled paper texture.

Step 6: Blending Options

Bring the image on the canvas and resize the image by pressing CTRL T. Reduce the opacity of the layer to 80% and change the blending options of the layer to Hard Light.

Step 7: Soft Light

Duplicate the texture layer. Set the opacity to 100% and change the blending options to Soft Light.

Step 8: Apply Hue

Duplicate the texture layer once more and change the blending options to Hue. Keep the opacity of the layer to 100%

Step 9: Final Touches

Duplicate the layer once more. Now pick up the soft brush tool with 0% hardness. Apply the brushes around the edges. Press CTRL U and increase the saturation of the image to 80. You can use various other filters and effects to increase the sharpness of the image. Once you are done, change the blending options of the layer to Overlay. That’s it.

Hi friends! Today we are promoting the eco friendly green living which is the only option if we want to keep our world forever beautiful and safe for our next generation. Yes my friends, it is time to go green. This is the reason that today I’ve brought a green living promotion theme made in Photoshop for you. It includes some very simple techniques, though the process is a bit longer than our usual tutorials. So let’s start by counting the things we are going to use to make this green grassy Eco friendly theme of ours, an image of a grass patch (taken from bigstock), an image of a sunflower (you can choose any flower) and an image of money plant vine (taken from Google Images so rights are reserved to the owner) with that we only need Photoshop and our own creative skills.

Before moving ahead with the tutorial, have a look at the finished theme image.

Step1:-

We are going to start by creating a document in Photoshop of size 900×600 pixels and fill it with a radial gradient of color green to very light green (#4ca858 to #9ee6a8 from left to right).

Step2:-

Open up the grass image in Photoshop and select a square piece using Rectangular Marquee Tool. Copy the selected area.

Step3:-

Paste the square piece of grass on our background.

Step4:-

Now grab the eraser tool with soft round shape and erase the grass in a way that it could look like a house structure. Set the Blend Mode to Linear Light and leave the Opacity to 100%.

Step5:-

Select a rectangular marquee tool and cut out a rectangular piece for the door as shown in the picture below.

Step6:-

Now we’re going to give this house shape drop shadow effect by right clicking on the grass layer and select Blending Options in the drop down menu, then check on the drop shadow. Make the settings according to the picture shown below.

Step7:-

Now paste the cut out door piece in its place. Blend Mode will be normal with 100% Opacity and no drop shadow effect.

Step8:-

Now we will add a small chimney and to do that cut another square piece from the grass image and paste it on our grass house as shown below. Set the Blend Mode to Linear Light like the rest of the house.

Step9:-

Open up the vine image and select the vine and leaves out of its background using Quick Selection Tool.

Step10:-

Paste it on our house and re-size it by pressing Ctrl+t.

Step11:-

Add drop shadow to it, like we did before for the house.

Step12:-

Add another vine repeating the same process as for the first one.

Step13:-

It’s time to add some beautiful sunflowers to our house. Open up the flower image, cut it out of its background and paste it on the house as shown below. Repeat the process 4 or 5 times for more flowers.

Step14:-

Now we are going to add text. Cut out another grass patch in a rectangular shape and paste it on our back ground then select the typing tool with color white and of size 72pt and the font style is Franklin Gothic Demi Cond. Type Green Living on the grass patch as shown in the picture below.

Step15:-

Now select the grass patch and use an eraser. The text is in front of you so all you have to do now is trace the text with eraser and when we’ll hide the text layer the text carved in grass by eraser will appear as shown below.

Step16:-

Add a vine and some flowers to our rectangular grass patch with text.

Step17:-

Now we are going to make multi-colored bubbles coming out of the chimney instead of smoke. Select a round marquee tool and make a small circle. Fill it with a multi-colored gradient as shown below.

Step18:-

Right click on the bubble layer and choose Blending Options from the drop down menu and make checks on drop shadow, outer glow, inner glow and Bevel and Emboss as shown below.

Step19:-

Reduce the Opacity to 10% and draw a white spot on the bubble for reflection. Make two more bubbles same way and change their sizes by pressing Ctrl+t.

There you have it. Your eco friendly green living promotional theme is complete now. Hope you had fun. Share your side of story. I’ll be back with more new effects and themes. Thanks for reading.

In this tutorial, we would be using few basic tools to learn how to make a creative grunge poster in Photoshop. Just follow few easy steps with me to create a grunge poster. Below is displayed our final result, which we are aiming to produce.

Step 1: Pen Tool

Select the pen tool and make several rays for your background pattern.

Step 2: Pattern

Fill out the canvas with a particular pattern.

Step 3: Clouds

Add a new layer and color the entire layer yellow. Add a mask to the layer. Click on the layer mask and go to Filter, Render and click on the Clouds option.

Step 4: Brush Tool

For this next step, you would need to download grunge brushes.

Once installed, you can start applying these brushes in a particular pattern on each separate layer.

Step 5: Brushes Continued

Keep using different brushes and make a composition you like.

Step 6: Guitar

Now we would need a guitar image for our composition. You can download the vector image and bring it on the canvas. Position it right at the center of your canvas.

Step 7: Grunge Background

Download any grunge background and position it on the canvas. Keep the layer right at the top.

Step 8: Darker Color

Duplicate the grunge background twice. That would leave you with 3 layers of the same grunge background. Select the first layer and change the blending options of the layer to Darker Color.

Step 9: Overlay

Select the rest of the grunge background layers and change the blending options for both of them to Overlay.

Step 10: Selection

Select the rectangular marquee tool and make a selection in the middle of the canvas like displayed below.

Step 11: Hue

Select the grunge background layer while the selection is still on. Copy and paste the selection on to a new layer and position that layer right at the top. Change the blending options of the layer to Hue. Go to Layer Style and choose the stroke option. Choose the size 2px and set the color for your stroke to black.

Step 12: Type Tool

Pick up the text tool and use the font Pacfont Good. You can type in your text within the newly created bar. That’s it.

In this tutorial, you would be learning how to transform a simple photograph into an appealing old comic book strip using basic Photoshop tools. Let’s have a look at our final result first.

Step 1: Basic Image

You need a basic image to start with, first of all.

Step 2: Noise, Saturation and Levels

Now go to Image, Adjustments and choose the Levels option. Use the input levels 60, 1.00 and 220 for this particular filter. After that, press CTRL U and increase the saturation of the image. Decrease the brightness by just a few percentages to give more focus to the face. After that, go to Filters, Artistic and choose the Film Grain filter. Set the grain level to 10px (depending on the size of your canvas) and leave the other options default.

Step 3: Halftone

Duplicate the layer and go to Filter, Pixelate and choose the Color Halftone filter. Keep the radius to 4px (depending upon the size of your canvas). Go to the blending options of that layer and change the Normal value to Darken.

Step 4: Borders

Select the Rectangle shape tool and make a basic shape that covers the whole canvas. Go to the layer style of that shape layer and choose the stroke option. Set the stroke to 10px. After that, reduce the fill of that particular layer to 0%. You would have this nice white border. Now you can make two additional rectangular shapes as shown below.

Step 5: Ripple Effect

Duplicate all the shape layers and merge them into a single layer. After that, go to Filter, Distort and apply the Ripple Effect. Keep the amount to 50% (differs according to your canvas size).

Step 6: Text

For this step, you would have to download the following font:

Once the font has been installed, you can use it to write your text as shown below.

Step 7: Final Touch

Duplicate the basic image and apply a soft brush around the face, preferably the edges. Keep the opacity of the brush to 30%. Change the blending options of the layer to Luminosity.

Using the text tool and simple blending options in Photoshop, you can make an impactful poster such as the one shown below.

Step 1: Backdrop

Download any picture of a beautiful scenery. This would define your background color so be very careful in picking an image.

Step 2: Gaussian Blur

Select the layer and move to Filter, choose Blur and select the Gaussian Blur option. Use the following details for applying the blur effect.

Step 3: Grunge Background

Next download any grunge background and bring it on your canvas. This particular backdrop can be found on Shutterstock.

Step 4: Blending Options

Desautrate the image by first selecting the layer and then press CTRL U. Once the new window opens, set the Saturation of that specific layer to -100. After that, change the blending options of the layer from Normal to Soft Light.

Step 5: Text

Pick up the text tool and use it to write your text in the middle of the canvas. For this specific tutorial, we would use the font Impact.

Step 6: Blending Options

Change the blending options of your text layer to Soft Light. This is your basic design and now we can continue with our composition.

Step 7: Composition

Start duplicating your text layer and arrange them in a particular composition like shown below.

Step 8: Fill the Canvas

Continue this process, until you fill the whole canvas.

Step 9: Final Touches

Duplicate all the layers and merge them into a single layer. This would add depth to your image. Reduce the brightness of the image and change the blending options of the layer to Color.

In this tutorial, we would be implementing the displacement tool and the burn tool on simple textures and completely manipulating two different images into something else. Below is displayed what we are aiming to create now.

Step 1: Basic Image

First of all, you would need a fabric background.

Step 2: Displacement

Desaturate your background layer by pressing CTRL U and setting the saturation value to -100. Save the file separately and name the file “Displacement”.

Step 3: Text And Shape Tool

Grab the Ellipse tool and make a circular shape at the center of the canvas. Reduce the fill of the circle to 0% and go to Layer Style. Apply the stroke filter and set the radius to 10px. After that, write your text in the middle of the circle using the text tool. For this particular tutorial, we would be using the font Hobo BT.

Step 4: Displacement Output

Duplicate all the shape and text layers and merge them into a single layer. After that, select the merged layer and go to Filter, Distort and select Displace. Once the new window pops up, use the following details. After clicking okay, select the Displacement.psd file that you had saved earlier. Once that is done, your image would obtain this irregular shape.

Step 5: Burn Tool

Press CTRL and click on the image layer. Once that is done, go to the background layer and select the burn tool. It is better to duplicate the background layer to try out different burn patterns. Apply the burn tool on the background layer using the selection.

Step 6: Blending options

Duplicate the background layer twice (one on which the burn tool has not been applied). Move these two layers right at the top. Reduce the opacity of one layer to 40% and change the blending options to Overlay. Reduce the opacity of the other layer to 25% and change the blending options to Vivid Light.

Step 7: Paper Texture

Download any paper texture and bring them on the canvas. Desaturate the image and change the blending options to Darken.

Step 8: Darker Color

Duplicate the paper texture layer and press CTRL U. Click on the Colorize option and play around with the hues. After that, use the burn tool on the image and change the blending options to Darker Color.

Step 9: Linear Light

Duplicate all the layers and merge them into a single layer. Apply the soft brush (using black color) around the borders. Press CTRL U and increase the saturation of the image to give it more depth. Darken the image and increase the contrast. You can play around with as many effects and filters as possible. Once done, change the blending options of the layer to Linear Light and we are done.

In this tutorial, you would be learning how to make a stunning typographic portrait in Photoshop. The only time consuming part in this tutorial is adding the text to your image. Other than that the whole process is fairly simple. Below is displayed our final result, which we are going to create. So, let’s start.

Step 1: Basic Image

Import the image of the model on the canvas and use the lasso tool to crop out the model from the background.

Step 2: Text Tool

Select the Text Tool and start typing in whatever you want to type. You can use any font you like. For this tutorial, I have used Garamond for the basic text. Notice how different fonts are used for the text laying on the main body.

Step 3: Further Text

Keep adding more and more text on the canvas and follow a particular arrangement.

Step 4: Selection

Bring the text in front of the model image like shown below. Select the cropped out model layer and press CTRL along with right click on the layer. This would automatically load the selection of the model’s face.

Step 5: Face Text

Duplicate the text layer while the selection is still on. Go to Select and choose the Inverse Option. Hit Delete and you would have a face mask.

Step 6: Overlay

Now simply select the face mask layer and change the blending options of the layer to Overlay. The text would automatically embed itself on the image.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Press CTRL U and decrease the saturation of the image. You can use various other features and effects to add depth to the image.

In this particular tutorial, you would learn how to turn a simple text into a beautiful design using gradients, various brushes and other filters in Photoshop.

Step 1: Text

Color the background Black and select the type tool. Use the font “Impact” and type whatever you want to in the middle of the canvas.

Step 2: Bevel and Emboss

Duplicate the text layer and rasterize the image. Go to the Layer Style options and choose Bevel and Emboss. Use the following details for your letters.

Step 3: Satin

Now click on the check box titled “Satin” and input the following settings.

Step 4: Gradient

Select the background layer and go to the Layer Style options. Click on gradient and use the following gradient for your background.

Step 5: Gaussian Blur

Duplicate the layer and go to Filter, Blur and apply the Gaussian Blur effect. Once done, reduce the opacity of the layer to 50%. Use the eraser tool with 0% hardness to remove the middle portion of the canvas where the text would appear.

Step 6: Expand and Glow

Duplicate the text layer and use the transformation tool to expand the text a little. Reduce the opacity of the layer. Go to Filter, Blur and apply the Gaussian Blur effect by only 2 px. Go to the Layer Style option and choose Outer Glow. Select the same color for the glow as the background color. Press CTRL and right click on the text layer to load the selection. Pick up the brush tool and randomly paint on the selection like shown below.

Step 7: Unhide the Text layer

Now unhide the original text layer and move it on top of the expanded text layer. You would see a fine outline created by the layer in the background.

Step 8: Brush Tool

Now you would need to download various brushes to add to you design.

Make a design pattern using these brushes in a new layer. You can use different brushes in different layers. That would allow you to apply various effects and colors to each brush.

Step 9: Blending Options

Once you are done with the background pattern, unhide the text layer. Press CTRL U and increase the Saturation of the image by 30. Now make a new layer and color the portion on the text with white color using the brush tool. Go to the blending options of the layer and select “Overlay”. Similarly make another layer and color the borders with black using the brush tool. Go to the blending options of that layer and select “Overlay”. Now duplicate all the files and merge them into one. Go to Image, Adjustments and choose the Brightness and Saturation option. Reduce the brightness and increase the saturation, till the point the image has completely darkened. Go to the blending options of that layer and choose “Linear Dodge Add”.

Step 10: Final Touches

Use the previously downloaded brushes to make a pattern on the text. Create a new layer and press CTRL right click on the text file to load the selection. Now select the brushes and make a pattern using white color. Go to the blending options of that layer and choose “Soft Light”. That’s it!
